The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect is an animation created for the the 2021 RSA annual Moving Pictures Competition.

The Mission
The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) is an organization committed to driving positive change. Their annual Moving Pictures Competition harnesses the power of animation to engage new audiences and convey impactful ideas.
For this competition, I had the privilege of creating an animation based on the audio piece titled “How to be A Good Ancestor.” In this profound clip, philosopher Roman Krznaric urges us to shift our mindset and cultivate compassion towards our planet and future generations. As a species, we must acknowledge the detrimental impact we have on the Earth and recognize that our present actions have far-reaching consequences.
The Process
The animation emphasizes the need to reconnect with nature
and embrace a simpler, sustainable way of life. By reducing overconsumption and prioritizing planetary healing, we can ensure a brighter future for upcoming generations, free from the devastating effects of our past actions.
The Outcome
It embodies the message of the butterfly effect, illustrating how small changes in our behavior can create substantial and transformative outcomes for the planet and its inhabitants. Through visual storytelling, this animation serves as a rallying call to inspire collective action and ignite a sense of responsibility towards creating a better world.
